Anna Rusinova made a presentation at the Lomonosov 2025 conference

On April 15, Anna Rusinova presented the results of the study "The relationship between interoception, mindfulness and empathy in the context of prosocial behavior" at the Lomonosov 2025 conference in the section "Psychology of Motivation and Emotions: New Research". The work was awarded in the "Relevance of Research" nomination.

The study explores how perception of one's own bodily sensations, level of awareness, anxiety, and emotional empathy are related to willingness to engage in prosocial activities such as charity.
The results show that mindfulness, unlike emotional empathy, is positively associated with a willingness to help others. People with higher awareness are more likely to make informed prosocial decisions, demonstrating emotional stability and a more positive perception of the body. At the same time, emotional empathy, although associated with intense sensitivity and interoceptive awareness, can be accompanied by anxiety and does not always directly lead to action. The importance of distinguishing between interoceptive factors related to reactivity and mindfulness is emphasized, especially in the context of programs aimed at developing emotional well-being and altruism.
The results of the study are available in the preprint.
